The Mining and Potash Museum is located in the former changing room of the Joseph-Else pithead, named after the two shafts located there. Mining operations began on the site in 1912, but it wasn't until 1924 that the MDPA (Mines de Potasse d'Alsace) expanded and modernized the facilities. Several red brick buildings constructed in 1928 bear witness to the final appearance of the pithead, which is still preserved in its entirety today. Mining operations at the pithead ended in 1966. The former changing room, which now houses the museum, is a listed historical monument.
